Safety & Security:
The Oregon Trail School District has taken proactive measures to ensure student and employee safety by developing an emergency response system and by training key staff to implement emergency procedures when necessary. The District has collaborated with local emergency response agencies to plan for coordinated efforts in case of an emergency. Our schools practice lockout drills and fire & earthquake drills, and are equipped to shelter-in-place for up to 24 hours if needed. In addition, emergency relocation sites are designated in the event that children need to be evacuated from a school site.
Security cameras on school buses and high school campus:
As part of the District's ongoing efforts to improve student management and ensure the health, welfare and safety of all those riding school transportation vehicles, security cameras may be utilized on any school vehicles transporting students to and from curricular and extracurricular activities. Students will not be notified when a security camera is on board and in use on District vehicles.
Security cameras are also utilized on the Sandy High School campus. Videos maintained by school security personnel are not considered education records, and may therefore be shared with parents of other students and outside law enforcement, as appropriate.
Campus Visitors:
For the safety of our children, all classroom/campus visitors are asked to report to the school office, sign-in and wear an identification badge. Parents who wish to visit a classroom should call beforehand to check the teacher's schedule and program for the day. Because the District wishes to maintain an undisturbed learning environment, friends, preschool children, and relatives other than parents/guardians are not permitted to visit classrooms during the school day exept in the event of special programs or by special invitation.
