Deadline
The deadline for submitting a privately shot senior portrait is Nov 1.
How to submit a photo
There are two ways to submit a privately shot portrait for the senior section of the yearbook.
A hard copy of the portrait can be submitted by bringing the photo to Room 56 and giving it to Mr. McIntire, the yearbook adviser. These photos cannot be returned until the book is delivered in May. Please lightly write the name of the student on the back of the photo or write the name on a label and stick the label to the back of the photo. The standard size is 2" x 3". This should be the name that the student wants to appear under the photo in the book.
We also accept digital photos which can be submitted by bring the photo in on a disk or e-mailing the photo. Disks will not be returned. Photos should be e-mailed to Mr. McIntire at mcintirj@ortrail.k12.or.us. Do not consider your photo successfully submitted until you receive a confirmation e-mail. This may take a day because we will need to download it and check to make sure the resolution, size and format of the photo will work. We can accept either JPG or TIF formats. The photo should be at least 300 dpi when reduced to 2" x 3". Please name the file the name of the student, preferably last name first, underscore, first name. Again, use the name the student wants to appear under the photo.
Acceptable Poses
Students can be creative with their senior photos but are encourage to submit a standard pose for inclusion in the yearbook. Most photos will be head and shoulder shots. Poses should reflect adherence to school rules for dress and safety. Questionable photos will be reviewed by the yearbook staff and administration.
Typical Problems
The most common problems we have with student submitted photos are:
-
The subject is too far away. You standing next to your car might mean a lot to you but when put in a 2" x 3" space in the book it often this reduces the head size significantly.
-
Lighting is poor. If you are shooting your own photo the best place is to shoot it outside but not in direct sunlight. Too much sun will cause you to squint and cast shadows across your face. Not enough light and you won't be recognizable.
-
Inappropriate dress. This is a school publication, you need to follow the school dress code. Proper "coverage" is important and don't wear clothing with inappropriate language printed on it.
-
Format. Your photo needs to be VERTICAL because that is the space in the book. Your HORIZONTAL shot of you standing next to your car will get cropped to focus only on you.
