    Hello Middle School Families,

We are happy to announce that we will be providing our middle school students the opportunity to join a sports team this spring. Things will look a little different than in years past, but we hope your child will find something of interest that will get them engaged with school and friends. The spring will be split into two sports “Seasons” and students will be able to join one team each season.

Practices will be four days a week, Monday-Thursday. Practice times will vary a little depending on the sport and location, but all practices will be held in the afternoon. If competitions are allowed for a specific sport, they would be held in the afternoon/evenings during the week. Depending on student participation at each school, some sports may be combined and played at a central location.

The participation fee has been waived and masks are required for all middle school sports.

Listed below are the sports we will offer for each season.

Season 1, April 5th-28th Registration is now open. See the link below.

Futsal (a more compact version of soccer, played on a hard surface)- Futsal is a new sport for us and is open to every middle school student in the district, but all events will be held at Cedar Ridge. This sport is currently allowed to have competitions, per the OSAA guidelines. This is open to boys and girls, 6th-8th grades.

Track - Practices will look like they have in previous years, but meets will most likely be different as no spectators will be allowed. Middle School track meets can be very large events with multiple schools converging on a stadium with hundreds of spectators. We are looking at various scenarios in which we can still provide a great competitive experience for kids but stay within COVID-19 guidelines. This is open to girls and boys.

Volleyball- This sport will look similar to its original self. We can play indoors (no spectators allowed) and since it is not a contact sport we can compete against other teams. This is open to girls, 6th-8th grades.

Season 2, May 3rd-28th Registration will open April 12th. We will send a reminder.

Games or scrimmages, both in practice and against other schools, are not allowed under our current county restrictions. This is open to boys and girls, 6th-8th grade.

Please note that physicals and proof of health insurance will be required to participate in a sport. Physicals can be done through your family doctor or the School Based Health Center at Sandy High.
